“Pretty Slowly”- a Dance Visual by Hannah Gallagher and HMG the Company When two people fall in love, it is a beautiful but scary thing. Many obstacles can appear along the way to change that. Sometimes you change, you get stuck on something that strips you of life, and your significant other can’t love you in the way they did anymore. Or sometimes the person you’re with isn’t the right fit, they end up being the one stripping you of your life, and them leaving ends up being the best thing that can happen to you. I’d had this story in my head for a while, and then I heard this beautiful song by @bensonboone about a month ago and finally felt I could bring it to life. “Let’s Die Together Tonight” I didn’t even really tell anyone I was doing this, nor have I danced like this in about 4 years. But when I knew I had these two in a room together for a day, I could not pass up the opportunity to share that space with them. The minute @ryleypolak presented this idea to me I was hooked. The idea of losing the love of your life at a young age in some kind of freak death and then being forced to move on. Knowing you’d rather die with them than continue. That has always been a petrifying thought to me. I know I wouldn’t be able to handle losing my fiancé @_ben144 that way, so this concept was extremely touching and heart wrenching for me. Thank you both for telling this very vulnerable story with me, and for keeping me safe throughout this whole process. HOPE— This idea was sparked by the passing of my sweet cousin Mac. Toward the end of his life, he overcame challenges & darkness by embracing a deeper faith & hope. I am so proud of the road he was on right before he moved on, and I will forever be grateful that I have a guardian angel helping me to always remember not to let the darkness get in the way of the path I’m meant to be on. I hope everyone else at one point or another can shed their darkness and find redemption and light. Thank you Mac for inspiring this idea in my head and heart. As 2020 comes to a close, I have been reflecting on this train wreck of a year. Though the mental growth has been unexpectedly amazing during this time, I have found myself longing for more human connection. But the disconnect of humans in the world right now is not just physical. Though COVID-19 has halted the ability for us all to be together physically, I feel as though mentally, spiritually, and even introspectively, we are all a bit disconnected. I created this because I long for that human unity and connection again.
